MOH not working on external calls

You have just finished upgrading servers to 8.x and are in testing phase. While everything seems to working - phones, gateways, voicemail system, only one thing is kaput. MOH stopped working. On further research, you figured out, MOH is not working on only external calls both inbound and outbound. Good that issue is isolated properly, but if you have only upgraded CUCM box then why MOH through gateways are affected. This generally happens due to compatibility issue between gateway's IOS and CM version. However, here we are hitting a classic caveat - CSCtl21854. Though, this caveat talks about unicast MOH, this workaround works in case of multicast MOH as well. Please note that this caveat is only observed on CM 8.x releases Unicast MoH fails if CEF is enabled. Symptom: Unicast MoH audio coming from CUCM will stop working after upgrade. Conditions : The symptom can be observed after upgrading a Cisco router to 15.0.1M4, 15.1(2)T1 or 151-3.T. Workaround: Option 1:

Intercom line configuration.

Intercom combines the functionality of a traditional line and a speed dial. With an intercom line, a user can call the intercom line of another user, which auto-answers to one-way audio whisper. Cool, isn't it! It reminds me good ol' days of landlines at home. All we used to do is pick up the receiver one from hall and the other from living room and we could able to hear each other, since it connects the same telephone line. Now, let's start with it's configuration. All you need to do is spare 5minutes of your time and intercom line will be running smoothly. First, configure intercom partition- so that only intercom can reach the other intercom line. And CSS would automatically get generated. Configure Intercom DN's and select right partition and CSS. 'Auto answer with speakerphone' feature is enabled by default. Provide the intercom DN's to the concerned users, most probably they are manager and assistant. That's it! It should be wor

MOH not working

One of the common symptoms to suggest that we are running into MOH issue are such as triple beeps / beep when you hit hold softkey.. Primarily, such issues are the cause of configuration negligence. Let's ensure that configuration is good before we ring TAC- Make sure that phone and gateways have right MRGL. MRGL should contain required MOH server resources. Make sure that MOH servers are registered with respective CUCM nodes. # If it is not registered, then there can be two causes- MOH flag is set to False. IPVMSA service is not running. MOH files need to be uploaded on all IPVMSA servers. If you started facing this issue all of a sudden, then IPVMSA might got stuck and you need to restart IPVMSA service on all nodes. But do make sure to take IPVMSA and CUCM traces on the detailed level in order to find out RCA of the issue. References.

Dead Air on unicast MOH

So, you have uploaded a new MOH file as advised by your management, but after that we get no sound on MOH. Here are my suggestions to bust your stress. :) As the issue suggests, the first thing to look at is MOH source, which is CM in our scenario. 1. Make sure that you have uploaded MOH file on all IPVMSA servers. The MOH file format has to be .wav 2. Navigate Media Resources > Music on hold Audio Source, make sure that the loaded file is associated to a source number. 3. Provide the source ID either on phone configuration or in service parameters. 4. Reset IPVMSA service. If you have followed these steps religiously, trust me your issue will be resolved. References.
